No one is exempt from grief. It is part of the world that we live in. In fact, children will process and understand grief based on their age and development. As the child grows older, they will once again try to process the death from their new perspective based on their age and development. A Child Life Specialist specializes in talking to children about death and dying using age and developmentally-appropriate information and explanations to help them navigate through difficult times.
Janice Paton, MTh, CCLS, GC-C provides a Grief Support Practice that offers in-person home visits which address grief support services for children and their families. Grief can show up in many different ways such as: death, finding out a loved one is dying, divorce, or any other type of major life changes. Often children have many questions and even sometimes misconceptions based on these new changes. Parents may wonder how they can best support and help their children navigate such difficult times. Janice provides grief support services to children and their families based on the family's specific needs. What makes these services so unique is that they are provided in the family's home where the child in most cases feels the safest. Each visit is one hour with the first 50 minutes devoted to a developmentally-appropriate grief support activity, while the final 10 minutes are offered to the parents/caregiver to address any questions.
Serving the Tampa Bay Area and surrounding areas.
